Wardrobe Essentials for Women

Here’s the thing: I have way too many clothes. I realize that. Most of us realize that, I think. My problem is that my style is starting to change. No longer do I enjoy running around in XXI clothes (or, heaven forbid, my old obsession for Charlotte Russe). Almost every time I look through my clothes, I have this overwhelming urge to throw everything I own away and start from scratch.

But how do you start from scratch? Thus started my idea to put together a list of essential pieces to buy again if I ever actually get around to starting a fresh wardrobe. Obviously, everything listed here can be altered to fit your style!

Bottoms and tops:

c600x600

dark wash jeans, regular wash jeans, high-waisted black leggings (my favorite), sweat pants, pencil skirt, jean shorts, tan shorts; black tee, white tee, button-up, sweater, zip-up jacket, flannel, blazer, pea coat, hoodie.

Dresses, shoes, socks:

Wardrobe Essentials (dresses, shoes, socks)a night dress, a day dress; nude heels, black heels, brown boots, black boots, athletic shoes, day-to-day tennis shoes, ballet flats, sandals, slippers; knee socks, ankle socks, no-show socks, regular socks, tights.

Winter accessories, bags, & underwear:

Wardrobe Essentials (winter, bags, underwear)an infinity scarf, regular scarf, beanie & gloves; wallet, clutch, black bag, brown bag, overnight bag, backpack; bathing suit; thongs, regular underwear, sports bra, white/tan/black bra (with at least one with a strapless option).

So if you ask me, these are the basic building blocks to any wardrobe! Let me know if there’s a piece you can’t live without.

Let’s play “what’s my new favorite accessory”

New Hipster Frames

These finally came today. Thank you, universe. Even though I feel like I’m looking through a fishbowl (therefore contacts will remain my #1 choice), I have a feeling I might wear glasses a lot more than usual. Also shout out to my just figuring out the whole “sock-bun” thing. I don’t know if I don’t use a long enough sock for my hair, or what, but I feel like it always comes out looking like a messy wrap bun–never nice and neat like Pinterest says. And now, what is possibly my favorite photo of me ever:

big frame hipster glasses with high bun

Join the hipster craze. Buy some big ol’ frames. These frames are Guess. And here’s to a fantastic week! Love you (yes, you).

sparrow dress v2

Sometimes it feels so silly putting these photos up and saying “this is what I wore today,” but I’ve been doing it for a year and a half, so I guess why stop now? Plus I totally love that sweater I’m wearing and I wanted to wear the shoes, so this is what I came up with. I also did those loose braids, which I haven’t done in years. Also I haven’t worn this dress in forever. The weather was around 32 degrees F today, so of course it felt like springtime and I just had to wear something a little lighter than usual.

Something great happened to me yesterday afternoon, and I wanted to share:

I am a worrier and a chronic over-thinker and sometimes I create entire problems that don’t exist with people I know. Even though I’m aware that it’s probably just made up in my head, I can’t forget about it when I’m around that person and tend to treat them accordingly. Anyway, I decided to get over the perceived injustices and participate in an activity at which said person would be present. At first, it was a little bit hard on the heart (it usually is when you want to dislike someone you know you shouldn’t), but I ended up realizing that I really don’t care about my imaginary problem and finally managed to get over it.

As you may suppose, I felt way better.

THEN, I was driving home from said activity and as I was nearing my neighborhood, a song I really like came on the radio. I was feeling awfully good about myself and the song was helping, so instead of turning onto my street, I decided to turn around and go to the store across the street to buy some Oreos and take them to my mom (since she had mentioned wanting some).

WELL, I was about to have two good-deeds done (sucking up my issues and being kind PLUS Oreos for my mother), when I pulled into a parking spot and a lady came up to me and asked me if I had jumper cables. I did of course (usually my car’s the one that needs them) and let her use both them and my battery to help start their little yellow bug.

I didn’t feel like it was anything special–I mean, I didn’t even do anything! They just had me stay in the the car while one of the men there did most of the work. Afterward, I was about to walk into the store when the woman came up to me and said how much she appreciated what I did for them. The girls with her all chorused in agreement. I was so surprised! I just felt like it was what anyone one do, and I was so happy to help (helping others really does give you a high)–but their gratitude made it so much better.

And then she shook my hand and handed me a folded bill, insisted I take it and hurried me off. When I went into the store, I looked and realized she gave me $20. Twenty dollars! When I came back out, they were gone and I was left with two packs of double-stuffed Oreos (one for me and for my mom), $20 and some serious warmfuzzies (best part)–none of which would have happened if I hadn’t finally decided to suck up my self-pity in the first place.

Feels good.

Snowy Farewell

IMGP9571

Yesterday afternoon my family and I went and dropped off my cousin at the MTC. This picture is of me, him, and my mother. It was really bittersweet because this kid and his brother are the closest things I’ve had to a brother. I love them dearly and am excited to hear about all of his adventures in Chile over the next two years.

IMGP9584

What a good-looking kid. He’ll be great. Now to write him his first letter! I told him I’d write him every day and he looked at me and said, “don’t you think that’s a little much?” And here I was, trying to be nice, thought he’d be happy–so I said I’d write him once a year instead. One down, one to go!

AustinMTC

Obviously, I’m really spiritual and write only about the important things. Plus, you know something is cool when the edges are all singed. Helpful hint: do the singing outside because now my room smells like burning paper. I’m going to include the above two pictures for him. Even though this just seems like a confusing thing to send to anyone, especially that little temporary tattoo, it’s exactly the kind of random that is my relationship with my family. My hoped-for reaction would be that he would give his goofy laugh and that all his MTC friends would just be really confused. Next week I’m going to send him a pink & glittery letter to hopefully embarrass him. MWAHAHA.

Fall 2012

I love all seasons, but I have to say, I think Fall-time gets the most attention from me. Even though it snowed this morning, but the mid-afternoon it all melted and I was determined to get some photos before the colors all turned to brown.

I have been a bad blogger lately, but I’m determined to change it.

In good news, I might be going to 80 degree Vegas this weekend to celebrate Katrin’s 21st! And I get to be very artsy in one of my classes right now.

I also saw three people I haven’t seen in over a year at school this week. Two I enthusiastically said hello to, one I avoided like the plague.

Halloween and Thanksgiving are almost upon us. I am so excited for the holiday season!

Hey, thanks to all of you who read these posts. It really means a lot to me.

Green

I just realized I posted this without any text, so a lot of people got emailed this with…no text, just pictures. Sorry.

I was recently told that green “is my color.” I think I’ll wear green more.

Today I’m not going to class and spending the day in Salt Lake, with my friend Chelsea. She came and visited me while I was living in LA too. I’m really really excited.

Happy Fall Equinox

I usually don’t post on Saturdays, but today is the start of fall–and well, I have to celebrate in my most fall outfit. The “Stanford” sweater is actually vintage! It belonged to my mom in the 80’s. The lace0side leggings (I don’t get to wear these nearly enough, btw) are from Papaya. The cute collared hearts piece was supposed to be a dress–but it totally shrank. Yes, again with my ELF Cheerful Cherry lipstick. It really is my fall favorite.

Even though the Fall Equinox is today, I don’t feel like fall has really set in. It’s definitely starting to creep around the corner, but I’m still holding out for 60 and 70 degree temps. Enough of this heat already! (But don’t come for a while, Winter.)

But, regardless of if we like it, the seasons are changing. Whether you pronounce it “Ee-quinox” or “Eh-quinox,” let’s remember to come together at this Season of Thankfulness–and let’s just all get along, okay?!

Retro-Inspired with a Special Guest

This is just further proof that I belong in skirts and dresses and not in jeans. I just don’t like jeans, okay? Also, it’s nice to break out the lipstick every now and then. The type I’m wearing in these photos is ELF’s Cheerful Cherry. It’s fantastic. I really like it, especially for fall season coming up.

And THEN, who came out to join me for pictures?

My sister has the cutest baby! He got shots today, but still managed to crack a couple smiles.

Oh babies. I love them when I can give them back.

Off to take photos of my sister and her baby! Perhaps I’ll put those up tomorrow.

Oh, HEY there, Monday

Dress from Charlotte Russe, Jeggings (yes, jeggings) from Old Navy, boots from Papaya.

I have officially been woken up by the greatest things the past two days. Life is pretty much awesome.

In other news, have someone take your photos that understands focus. Please. And in less harsh light. Don’t be like me.

Ready for a busy week!?? It’s coming!

Spring Fever

So I’m still in love with Spring! Also, I’m totally aware in the 2nd photo you can see the top of my tights. I blame the wind. And the photos seem weirdly out of focus a little, but THAT’S what happens when you can’t clone yourself to take photos. Of yourself. No, really, thank you Dad for taking them. (Next time press the button half way so it can auto focus on me)

Cardigan: Forever21 (it’s a new fav of mine); Shirt: Papaya; Skirt: Papaya; Shoes: Charlotte Russe (also wore these shoes here)
