Birthstone Rings & Why I Love Them.

image

Birthstones tend to be on the same category for me as Zodiac signs: made up by someone at some point and now it’s a huge market.

Even though I know this…I still fell prey to the market. But you know what!? They can take my money because now I look at these rings and like them anyway, despite their made up origins, for these reasons:

  1. Emeralds and pearls are pretty together (thank you, birthstone maker-uppers for not giving me something ridiculously expensive that I could never afford a real one–sorry, Aprils)
  2. They’re genuine, which makes me feel like they’re worth more than they are. Plus, who doesn’t like wearing real, semi-precious gemstones? People are all about diamonds these days, but gemstones are cool too.
  3. The raw look of them makes them feel sort of vintage-y and more real. The super polished glassy look of gemstones makes me feel like they’re fake for some reason.
  4. Because I look at them and it makes me think about Jared and me and how we’re married and how that’s still really new and neat for me.

Run-on sentences aside, I think that things have meaning if you let them. And, against my best rational mind, I have put meaning into these birthstones. I wear them pretty much every day, and I love looking at them. They mean more to me every day, and that’s really what makes them so fun and special.

Honestly, I think I may go crazy and buy pearl/emerald jewelry forever (I’ve always liked pearls though).

If a non-believer like me can love and find meaning in birthstones, then anyone can. Especially if they’re pretty. Which is why they’re great gifts. I got these two rings from Etsy, which is also one of my new obsessions. I got silver plated (but I wish I would’ve gotten sterling silver, because they’re already starting to tarnish). The shop in general has a lot of really cute stuff, like druzy jewelry.

Have you heard of druzy? It’s like the newest craze in jewelry. It just means the stuff in crystals that make them look shiny, but oh man, I’m in love. Why is it so pretty? Anyway, you should look it up, especially as gift season approaches!

Galaxy Nails

I did gradient nails with a black and sparkly navy, then added a chunk silver glitter to the top half of the nail. Pretty simple and I love them! This is actually a design I didn’t find from Pinterest, so congrats to me. Let me know if you try it out!

A Package

Sundays have become Craft Sundays for me, mostly because I don’t ever feel like I have very much to do on Sundays. I have a boyfriend on a mission for my Church, so I sent him a package on Friday. I put such cute stuff in it! At least, I think I did. I used all neon colors and frankly, it hurts the eyes to look at, but I’m hoping he enjoyed it!

The best thing about being in the same city as the MTC (where he currently is) is that I can get packages to him same day, no matter the size, for $2. It’s very convenient. I can obviously also get letters to him same day. They don’t even charge postage, how COOL.

Well, I’m off to send him a letter and tonight I’ll be doing more things to make him another package! Yay, craftiness!

Little tiny quotes that he can insert into his journal or put on the mirror, or do whatever, honestly.

Since he’ll be serving in France, I wrote up the Articles of Faith (the basic beliefs of our Church) in french, then put a pretty bow on it.

The whole thing, packed and stuffed to the top, right before I sealed it and sent it!

The contents! It was fun to put together! AH! I hope he liked it! I hope I get a letter today…

I honestly don’t know how I can keep this up for another 24 months without a breakdown of some kind…

Guest Post: Nail Art by Anna

Who doesn’t love finding new ways to to their nails? I know I suddenly am obsessed, which is why I asked the lovely Anna to post about her immaculate nail art!

First I painted my nails with multiple coats of Sinful Colors Scandal nail
polish. It’s an extremely pale pink, which means multiple coats was
necessary.

Then, I got out my Kiss Nail Artist Blue and simply painted a backwards “C”
on the left side of my finger. I placed a normal “C” on top and a crooked
“C” on the bottom to form the main design on my fingers.

On my ring fingers only (just my personal preference), I added a
little bit of Kiss Nail Artist Silver coming from the center “C” just to
add some flare.

After all of this, I let my nails dry to the “sticky” stage and added a clear top coat, which for me is Seche Vite.

Et voila! A cute way to design your nails. Use red and gold to spice it up for the Holidays, or give as a gift to a little sister!
