Summertime at the Beach

I went to California a couple weeks ago and got to go back to the beach where I used to spend most of my time when I lived there. I used to keep a big trunk in my car with all the books I wanted to read. I would just drive out to Santa Monica and sit in Palisades Park to read under the trees, or I would just go lay out in the sand!

Going back was weirdly less nostalgic than I thought it would be. I mean, of course a lot of memories came back, but I was more surprised at how I seemed to naturally fall back into the swing of things. Driving through traffic, going down the familiar roads was as if I had never left.

California is beautiful, and I really love it there, especially the variety you find with the people. For the most part, though, I was glad to be where I am now and moving toward my goals.

A Photo Book

I made a photo album from Kava’s and my little vacation in around Easter. I made it on! It was a padded cover 12×12 book with 31 pages! It was originally supposed to be $100 and some, but they were having a couple deals and I ended up getting it for $70 (high-five!), so that was pretty exciting.

Here are a select few pages! The quality isn’t very good because these are just screen shots I took from the preview. The real book came in the mail a few days ago and it looks really amazing! 12×12 was a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be!! It’s cool, though. Really cool. Too bad he has to wait 2 years to see it! Haha!

Amazing Night

Start this video before reading the post. I want you to feel a little of what I feel.

Hi. It’s 3am…

I had an amazing night. One of those nights where you don’t know if you wanna go, then you go and are soooo glad you did! Thinking about it, I’ve actually had a fantastic past few days.

What did I to to have such a fantastic past few days? I’m glad you asked:

– I saw the sunset over the beach in Santa Monica with two amazing women and walked along 3rd Street. We got free tickets to a concert at the House of Blues and had an incredible time.

– I met three new people and got to know them by running around Downtown Disney, then over chili cheese fries at a diner until they closed, then over Donnie Darko and a couple car rides in between.

Fate is a curious thing. I’m seriously in love with how peaceful it is at this time on a Monday night.

This is what life is about–being around people that make you better and make you remember a happiness you forgot about!

Tonight is glorious.

Books & Beach, Update on Updating

I’ve really just not been around the past couple of weeks. I think about the blog at least once a day and I feel bad that I’ve been unable to post. I think mostly because I don’t like to start things and not finish them, but I also really enjoy this site & blogging and I miss it when I don’t do it.

To hopefully keep this from happening in the future, I’ve made a new little schedule that I swear I will stick to from now on regarding posting. I’m going to have my posts up every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday by 8am PST/11am EST.

Something else I’ve decided to do is “Music Mondays,” where I’ll share & talk about a song I heard during the week, along with a normal posting. I figure it helps fulfill the purpose of this blog–to broaden my horizons, boost my talents a little and mostly to become more acquainted with the finer arts in life.

Speaking of being more cultured, I’ve found myself with quite a bit of time on my hands during the day. I chose to give myself a couple weeks to enjoy California before starting back so deeply in work/etc. I’ve taken to going to Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica and setting out a little blanket to read books in the shade. I think the last time I read a book front-to-back was probably in 11th grade for the assigned reading–(I don’t think I read any of the books for senior year, sorry, Ms. Hall-Lewis.)

I think maybe the last time I read a book for pleasure was…well, I can’t remember the last time. Is it sad/unusual that I haven’t read a book in like, 3 years? Is that unusual? I don’t know–well, in the past two weeks I’ve read 3 books, so maybe that’ll make up for it.

I have always kept the books we were assigned to read in school because I felt that it made me look distinguished to have a shelf full of books boasting of titles such as “The Scarlet Letter,” “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” “Freakonomics,” and other such nationally ranked books. Some of the books I have read–I should probably make that clear. I don’t have tons of books that I’ve never touched. I’ve totally read at least parts of all of them.

Anyway, when I moved to CA, I put them all in a big trunk. This trunk is really heavy–like way too heavy for me to carry alone–so I have just left it in my car.

I was sitting in the grass wishing I had something to do when I remembered said trunk! I pulled out a book reluctantly. I have to say that at first it was hard to get back into the whole words-to-images-in-your-brain instead of not having to do much work as when watching films. I read with a conscious effort for a while, as if I was expecting the words to swirl together into a movie.

Kind of like how in movies, they have a narrator talking and the screen ripples and the dreamy music plays, transporting you to the scenes playing out exactly what the narrator was saying?

But, books are just black on kind of a creamy yellow and it was all very hard to get used to again.

I also forgot how tired reading makes me. Maybe it’s just being silent for so long. Sorry if this really long post makes any of you tired. Happy Friday!

Wavy Beach Hair

Well, as of this Friday, I will be living in California! Since it’s such a different place, I wanted to make sure I fit in–I decided I would try the beach wave! I just took a straightener and waved my hair, then put some hairspray to make it more defined and less frizzy and all over the place. I think it’s a success!

I’m hoping this will help me get back into the habit of doing my hair. All too often do I just let it go natural or just throw it in a braid. I’ll be excited to be in the sunny L.A. and livin’ the dream!
