Lipstick Diaries pt. V – Pink Pop

IMGP2817

Maybelline Pink Pop #860On my nails is Essie’s Play Date and on the lips is Maybelline’s Vivids collection #860 Pink Pop. I really like this one. This is the first of the Vivids collection that I bought, and whew–it is definitely bright! I really like it! I especially wish I had more places and outfits to wear with such a fun color.

August 1st is coming up soon, which is the day I release a new project I’ve been pouring my heart and soul into at work. And hopefully you will all partake. More on that later.

My two favorite songs right now (you’d know if you followed me on Twitter):

Lipstick Diaries pt. IV – Coral-ish

IMGP2710

IMGP2703I bought 5 new shades of lipstick, all of the Maybelline Vivid collection. This particular shade is #870 – Shocking Coral. I really like it. It stays on well after you blot and rocks the intense/wow-factor really well. Makes me feel like a lady. But a wild lady.

It also made me feel like I needed to wear my hair up to really show it off right, but I rarely wear my hair up, so I thought I’d give it a go with leaving it down. My hair is my favorite prop. When it’s up, I feel like I don’t know what to do in photos.

The only thing I would comment about the lipstick is that it doesn’t look particularly coral-y. These photos were edited so it’s not quite that dark of a purple either, but the nail polish I’m wearing is Essie’s Peach Daiquiri, so you can tell it’s not all that close to a traditional coral.

Below is a photo that wasn’t edited so you can see the true color:

Maybelline Vivids Shocking Coral 870

I have a very exciting project I’m working on that I hope to be “unveiling” around the 1st of August, so keep your eyes peeled for that!

Shellac Again

IMGP1040

Got shellac on my nails again. I haven’t had it in so long that I forgot how much better it looks than real polish (at least when I do my own nails). It’s shiny, and the best part is that it doesn’t chip. Chipping is so annoying, especially when you pay to get your nails done. So far, I’ve dropped a heavy ceramic dish on my nail, scraped it against a textured wall and they’re still perfect. I was even cutting a piece of paper and the scissors came down on my nail and not even a scratch. It’s amazing and so so so worth it.

The only thing I would recommend beforehand is to make sure you love the color. I usually get red or super light pink, a la Emily Maynard, but this time I decided to go a little wild. So far, so good! It’s been three days and I still love it.

We’ll see if I let them grow out, or if I decide I hate it.

LOVE WEEK: Singles’ Awareness Day Party Perfection

Singles Awareness Day party ideas

If you’re like me and single for the first Valentine’s Day in 3 years, you definitely want to have a relaxed time for once. This week, I’m co-hosting one and attending another S. A. D. party (co-ed winkywinky), and I thought I’d share my ideas on how to throw the best Singles’ Party with you and your similarly single lady friends OF ALL TIME:

  1. Environment/Decor: Pick some awesome single playlists [herehere] and play that background music!
  2. Food: Lots of strawberries and chocolate and popcorn. Cute recipes here, here, and here.
  3. Activities: Chick-flicks of course! (He’s Just Not That Into You, Mona Lisa Smile, etc)
  4. Activities: Heart-attack someone you all know
  5. Activities: board games/party games (Never have I ever…, other icebreakers)
  6. Activities: photo-booths are super fun

MOSTLY, just try to have a good time! Be happy!! Instead of wasting time with a boy you probably won’t end up with–you could be creating lasting bonds with women-folk.

After the boys-and-girls singles’ party I go to this weekend, I’ll let you know what we did and how great it turned out to be. Being single can be so fun.

Valentine’s Day Nails

valentine's day heart nails

I had shellac on my nails over the past few weeks–and since the polish was dark, it was super noticeable when my nails started to grow. Instead of trying to remove it myself (which you can do by filing of the top layer, then soaking in acetone for a while, then filing more and more off as you alternate soaking), I just went and had a salon remove it. They also filed my nails nicely and removed my cuticles (which is the best part).

Like I said, the color I had for almost a month was dark, so this time I decided I’d go for a lighter color. What better than Essie’s Ballet Slippers that my amazing sister got me for Christmas? I saw this tutorial on Pinterest and just knew it’d be my next project. Since I’m not super talented, I decided to only do the heart on one hand. Surprisingly, it looks really cool like that. I also like how the heart is facing me.

Fun fact: did you know the Egyptians (and other people) used to believe that there was a vein running directly from the ring finger to the heart–and that’s why we put rings on that finger? We now know that’s not true, but the symbolism is beautiful!

Shellac Again

I couldn’t resist, I had to get my nails done with shellac again. It’s just too convenient! I’m telling you! I am seriously contemplating buying my own stuff to do it myself!

Although it was quite an adventure getting these done, I ended up 45 minutes away from where I live, got called a liar, almost suffocated from fumes–but got free chocolate (which is really all that counts for anything).

One of the few times it’s okay to have nudity in public

I feel like I’ve been slacking a lot lately with blog-related things.

Who am I kidding, it’s not just with blog-related things. It’s basically with everything.

Somehow, I have caught the lazies.

I’m trying to get it out of my system, but it’s so difficult! It’s just a phase, I hope. Soon I will be back to my overachieving ways. For the sake of my schoolwork, let’s just hope it’s soon.

Orange and Purple Nails

Sinful Colors Hazard is the orange, Essie Play Date is the purple. I like the idea of a different accent nail, and I adore these colors together.

K I’m busy, doing this on my phone, sorry! I promise more coming soon!

Animal Print Nails

I love this style. I took the inspiration from this pin on Pinterest. My nails weren’t quite as long, but I think I did a pretty good job of making it look cool. It’s actually a lot easier than it looks! The three colors I used were Essie’s Funky Limelight, Rimmel London 521 Dazzle and a black nail art pen from Charlotte Russe.

5 Steps:

  1. Paint base color
  2. Add gold dots
  3. Use nail art brush to draw sort of like parentheses around the dots
  4. Add some dots in black
  5. Top coat (after it dries)

See? One of the easiest tutorials ever! I did the thumb and ring finger as accent nails.

Lace Lollipops has a project going on! To add a little bit of good to this world, I want to showcase you and your good deeds! Send me a message, email, comment or tweet with something you did nice, and I’ll post them anonymously once a week. The first set will go up on this Sunday, 8/12. #ProjectGood

Galaxy Nails

I did gradient nails with a black and sparkly navy, then added a chunk silver glitter to the top half of the nail. Pretty simple and I love them! This is actually a design I didn’t find from Pinterest, so congrats to me. Let me know if you try it out!

Gel Nails (Shellac)

This is a lovely pink-red color I got done on Monday. It’s supposed to last about three weeks to a month. I really like the polish! It hasn’t chipped, it’s really shiny (as you can see). Usually that shine doesn’t last for very long after the top coat is applied, but it’s been two days and the nails look wet! It’s great.

I think it’s a great way to go get your nails done. I paid about $30. I will probably get them done again. The only thing is that it doesn’t give as much versatility with color. I tried to pick something I wouldn’t get tired of and that wouldn’t be too hard to match with.

Because I generally like my nail polish to match or at least go with my outfits.

Funfetti Cupcakes & A Birthday

But they were from a box, so they actually tasted good.

Unlike everything I’ve ever made from scratch.

Also, I came into work this morning and found these.

And these. All from this wonderful lady. She is truly amazing! I love her to death.

I’m sure I’ll post more later because my day is just getting started. Happy Un-Birthday to all of you! (Unless it actually happens to be your birthday too. Happy Birthday)

The Scotch Tape Nail Tutorial

To start, make sure your nails don’t have any polish on them. I like using 100% Acetone. It takes the polish right off. The cotton swabs I got at the Dollar Store. After my nails are clean, I file them with my nifty 4 step filer. It is convenient and makes the nails all shiny. I always put on lotion before too. The Q-Tips you see at the bottom are a special kind, they’re specifically for nails and the cotton is much more packed together (tighter) than normal ones so that the cotton doesn’t get everywhere. They’re really nice for precision.

After my nails were prepped.

Base coat is next!

After all received Base Coat. I don’t do this as often as I should, because it protects the nails from turning yellow-ish caused by staining. As you can see, my nails aren’t exactly white. So base coat!

For this particular design, I put one coat of OPI Samoan Sands. I like this shade because it reminds me of concealer for nails. I use it when I want to look like the color is my natural nail color.

After the coat is finished, you have to wait at least 10 minutes for the polish to dry.

While you’re waiting, get your tape ready. Take one or two inch pieces and press them against your hand a few times until the adhesive-ness (I am pretty sure that’s not a word) is less…adhesive, haha and put them aside to wait. You can do a piece for every nail, but I don’t like to waste, so I usually use one piece of tape a couple of times at least. Remember to take the adhesive level down, or you’ll end up taking your polish off and will have to start over!!

After ten minutes, you should be ready to start the scotch tape nail art. Just make sure the polish isn’t wet or tacky at all. It may take longer depending on how many coats you have on and the type of polish you’re using. And probably how humid it is where you are.

Place the tape on your nail, leaving the portion you want in the original color covered and the part you want in the new color uncovered.

Next, use the color to go over the part that isn’t covered by the tape. Make sure the tape is touching your nail all the way so it doesn’t bleed under the tape.

Remove the tape! After that, you just need to repeat on all the nails. There are so many designs you can do with tape. These are some of the easiest.

A triangle design using two pieces of tape.

You can just play around with it until you find a design you like. Add a top coat to make sure that the polish stays shiny and lasts longer. My favorite top coat so far is China Glaze No Chip top coat. I haven’t tried Seche Vite, but I hear they have the best top coat.

Happy Memorial Day

image

Hi! I’m headed up to Salt Lake for the day! Here are some lovely patriotic nails. I am so happy to be American, and to have been protected by those serving in the armed forces! I realize I’ve been putting up a lot of nail stuff, I will tone it down in the future.

Email me if you need me, brittany@lacelollipops.com. Follow me @LaceLollipops, happy 3 day weekend!

Nude & Purple Nails

I just used scotch tape and Essie’s Play Date. I love the color! Last time I did half nude nails, I used one thin coat of OPI’s Samoan Sand, but this time I didn’t. It made it easier to get a clean line with the scotch tape because I didn’t have to press the tape against my skin a bunch to take the adhesive level down (so it doesn’t tear off the other paint).

Happy Friday! I’m stuck at work all night, so you can find me on Pinterest.
