Playing in the November Snow

I love contrasting black and cream. I don’t know why, but it just makes my eyes happy. Especially in Winter. All the clothes I’m wearing in the photos were gifts. I don’t know where anything is from, except my tights, but I can’t remember where I got them! I remember WHEN I got them, and what they were FOR, but not where…

I need more patterned tights.

And less snow. Don’t get me wrong, snow is perfect for photographing and playing, but I am deathly afraid of driving in snow. Yes, I realize I picked the wrong state to live in.

Corduroy, Bows and Stripes

I realize I wear my striped shirt way too much, but it’s my favorite shirt, guys! It is! And this bow jacket was a gift. I’ve had it for almost a year now, and still have never worn it for a blog post. I keep wanting to, though. I just have never found a cute enough outfit. I wore it to church last Sunday and really liked the outfit. It’s a bit more wintery, so I’ll post those photos later.

Other than that, you may have noticed more recipe photos than normal from me. It’s true, it’s true, I’m actually cooking regularly. Later this week, I’ll be posting about how cooking wasn’t as hard as I thought it’d be.

Social Change

I just recently got accepted to present at the Utah Valley University Conference on Writing for Social Change. I’m really excited, because it means I can present my paper on feminism to some people and maybe inspire social change. That’s kind of a big deal.

Also, I am doing something else really exciting. Getting all A’s. In all 6 of my classes. The semester is about only halfway done, so we’ll see where it goes, but it’s amazing how much more motivated I am to be successful in school after a) taking a year off and b) having figured out what I want to do with my life.

The last thing that’s going on in my life that is keeping me from being a very good blogger is that I have been rehearsing and practicing to accompany the BYU contemporary dancers. I got this amazing opportunity from one of the most musically apt people I know from Church. He randomly presented me with this chance, and I’ve totally been bitten by the performance bug. I just love it. We did our first performance today and it went really well. It felt amazing to sing with such a talented person and to a magical guitarist, then knowing two people were dancing to something that I was helping to create–was amazing.

I have a lot going on right now, personally and with school, but I’m encouraged by the inspiring messages of those around me. I am so lucky and grateful for the opportunities I get to spend my life in such uplifting circumstances. I am growing in ways I never thought possible–and it’s not even because of the Halloween candy!

Old Friends

This is my friend Sarah. I decided to put it in bold, because she sort of looks like me and I would be very offended if people commented saying, “Wow, Britt, you’re skinny now!”

If the thought crossed your mind, here’s what I have to say about that.

Sarah and I have known each other for around 12-15 years. I was 5 when I moved to the city we ended up both living in 1996. That’s a really long time to know someone and still be around each other.

Well, we reunited a while ago and–what else do I do with friends but take photos? So this is where we ended up! Click on the photos in the gallery below to make ‘em bigger.

Rainy California

Let’s pretend I meant for the background to be in focus and for myself to be not in focus. K thanks.

Sometimes it rains in California. Before I lived here, every time I came to visit, it was raining. It always ruined my fun and made it no fun to go to the beach. Now, I love it when it rains!

But it’s funny: even with the rain, and in the middle of winter, it never gets cold enough for me to break out any kind of thicker jacket than the one you see above.

Oh, California–never will I leave you. Now if only I could get my friends and family to move out here.

Happy Thanksgiving and Hair

Happy Thanksgiving!

I’m so excited to go get some food…I haven’t eaten anything all day in preparation. I wasn’t able to go home and visit my family this year because of my work schedule, but I’m lucky enough to have people in the area who I can go eat with!

While I was getting ready, I decided to take photos of my hair in all it’s stages: first, wet and un-brushed; second, brushed and blow dried; third, styled!

I love braided bangs. Super cute. Decided to dress mostly casual, but I didn’t want to go too casual, so I added the jacket (from Charlotte Russe) and boots (from Old Navy.) Hopefully everyone else is dressed informally, too. It might be awkward. I’ll keep you updated. I’m going to be late, though, so sorry if this post is rushed!

Ugh, I hate jeans. More on that later. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
