Animal Tank

Like an Animal

Animal Tank

I usually don’t wear animal prints, because I attach this stigma to them that says “cheap,” and other things that just generally surround the opposite of “classy.”

I’ve decided, though…who cares? Go a little wild, go a little crazy.

Do the things that you want to do and just be free!

I say this because recently I did something adventurous and fun and then I felt guilty for it…even though I didn’t do a single thing worth feeling guilty over. I realized that my childhood/teenage restrictions of “NOT ALLOWED” still grip me sometimes. And that made me mad!

I really wish I didn’t let the fear of “not allowed” (whether by society, or personal inhibitions) keep me from doing all the fun stuff I could be doing. So I’ve vowed to change that, because we simply just don’t know how much time we have left–and I’m tired of being so careful! Even when I did my one adventurous act of packing everything I own in the back of my car and moving to California by myself…I still was so careful. I just need to relax and enjoy life, and worry less.

Animal Print Nails

I love this style. I took the inspiration from this pin on Pinterest. My nails weren’t quite as long, but I think I did a pretty good job of making it look cool. It’s actually a lot easier than it looks! The three colors I used were Essie’s Funky Limelight, Rimmel London 521 Dazzle and a black nail art pen from Charlotte Russe.

5 Steps:

  1. Paint base color
  2. Add gold dots
  3. Use nail art brush to draw sort of like parentheses around the dots
  4. Add some dots in black
  5. Top coat (after it dries)

See? One of the easiest tutorials ever! I did the thumb and ring finger as accent nails.

Lace Lollipops has a project going on! To add a little bit of good to this world, I want to showcase you and your good deeds! Send me a message, email, comment or tweet with something you did nice, and I’ll post them anonymously once a week. The first set will go up on this Sunday, 8/12. #ProjectGood

Jewelry

I’m not a huge jewelry person. I usually don’t wear it at all. When I was younger, I wore the biggest, most flashy jewelry I could find. I’m glad I’m over that. Above is a set I bought from Charlotte Russe. Usually, their jewelry seems cheap to me, but I actually liked these pieces.

I have a couple more bracelets that I love so much, I just may get back into the habit of wearing jewelry again.

Sorry on Post Slowness

Sorry I haven’t been posting very regularly this week. There’s just this thing called English Class, crammed into a Summer semester, and all I do is annotate articles on feminism and write outlines and papers.

Here are things that keep me sane:

I love side braids. Efficient. I don’t have to put almost any effort into my hair. Favorite polka dot shirt. Jean shorts. Mint pedicures with blue flowers. Gold sandals.

This weekend is going to be awesome! For those who MAY NOT KNOW, I’m a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (aka, I’m a Mormon). We’re having the super bowl of the LDS church this weekend: General Conference. I get to hear at least one session live at the conference center in Salt Lake with this one guy. <3

I have to say, I can’t wait to hear all the uplifting words and be inspired! This weekend…is going to be awesome!

Monday with Maria: DIY Glittery Belt

I am a very girly-girl when it comes to the way I dress. I absolutely love frilly, glittery, and bold fashion pieces. This week I will show you guys how to make a gold-glittery accent belt!

This belt was very easy to make. There are very few supplies you need: Paint brushes, glitter (any color or any size), and Mod Podge.

You will also need a belt. I got this belt at the local Good Will for only $1.99! You can also re-vamp an old belt. I chose this one because of the gold clasp. You should choose the clasp color depending on what color glitter you pick out.

Next, I took a pan and covered it in aluminum foil to avoid getting glitter everywhere.

Then, put some Mod Podge into a container. I cut the top off a coke bottle for an easy clean up. Then mix in some glitter.

Then apply to the belt. You don’t need to to put it on the inside, just the outside. Next, sprinkle the glitter all around the belt.

After the glitter dried I hung up the belt to let any extra glitter fall off. Apply one more coat of just Mod Podge to seal in the rest of the glitter. Then you’re finished!

It makes any old outfit look fabulous! Make sure to pair it up with some glittery gold heels to match and you’re ready for a night out on the town!

(I got these shoes at Charlotte Russe)

Homemade Nail Polish and Sneak Peek at the Grand Prize for the Contest/Giveaway!

When I’m not feeling in a good mood, or even if I’m bored, I paint my nails. Lately, I’ve been really into it. I like seeing which colors are popular for the different seasons. This season, gold is in! (If you’re looking for the Sneak Peak at the Grand Prize for the Contest/Giveaway, scroll down!)

I have been really into gold, glittery things this fall. Including my new shoes, my new jacket, and now my new nail polish. There was a picture on Pinterest (my new obssession) and it was nail polish that had big chunks of glitter in it–it was adorable! I usually get my nail polish at Walmart or a drug store. For some reason, I could not find a glittery/sparkly nail polish that I really like. With my DIY mindset, I decided to make some gold nail polish!

I decided that I wanted my ring finger to have the accent color. I painted all my other fingers 204 West Village by NYC. It’s a really pretty color. It looks like a dark blue, but in the light it has hints of purple. (I got it at Walmart for less than $2)

Then take any clear nail polish, I’m using 271 Clear by NYC, and any gold glitter.

Next, put some glitter in a small container and pour in a little clear nail polish. Then apply! You can apply it like I did to an accent nail or to every nail!

Make sure to check out the Do-It-Yourself project I did on Monday, here!

Yesterday we announced a Contest/Giveaway! If you didn’t know, check out the details of how to enter here.
