Thoughts in Black

IMGP9440

I have to say how much I’ve been busy being not busy the past few weeks. It’s like I’ve made an effort to do none of my work. I call it my rebellious period. I think I was just so overwhelmed after last semester ended, then I’ve been overwhelmed with the amount of work I’ve had straight off this semester. But, I’m over it now.

I’m happy to report I’m back on schedule now, and things are looking up. For starters, I finally organized my room–not just cleaned it. I can’t express how much better it’s made me feel already.

My ankle is still healing somehow. I can’t believe how long it’s been and why it isn’t better already. I did manage to wear heels on Sunday, though. They gave me a blister on the back of my ankle, so now all I can wear are my loose shoes. So overall, it ended up taking my already limited  choice (only flats) to even more limited (only flats that don’t hurt my blister).

When I was organizing my room, I managed to get rid of a lot of stuff I was basically hanging on to for no reason. It’s so funny–when I originally put it all in a box and put it in a corner of my closet, I thought “I can’t just throw this away, I spent a lot of time on it, even though I’ll probably never look at it again.”

When I took it out yesterday, I was strangely unattached and didn’t care at all. All in the trash. It felt really…empowering. I know that’s weird, but it feels so good not to be attached to things. Sometimes I feel like I live my whole life making decisions based on one attachment or another.

Confession: I didn’t go to my classes today. I took a mental-sanity day and ran errands, then enjoyed a beautifully relaxing (much needed) pedicure. I can’t even fully express how much I’ve been needing to relax.

My Sister

IMGP4786

This is my sister, and this is her adorable outfit, made entirely of Christmas presents!! You can’t really tell in this picture, but her boots are Steve Madden, super cute leather. Clearly her husband is a winner. Clearly she is the stylish one in the family.

Also, check out that snow! My sister’s birthday is on Christmas Eve, and this year was one of only a few times it’s ever snowed on her birthday in her life! It snowed on Christmas Day, too! And the next day–and today! It’s been a snowy season! It’s fun to take pictures in and look at, but driving in snow is one of the most stressful things of all time ever.

I hate driving in snow.

I think I might be living in the wrong state. Maybe I’ll do law school in California.

A girl can dream.

Social Change

I just recently got accepted to present at the Utah Valley University Conference on Writing for Social Change. I’m really excited, because it means I can present my paper on feminism to some people and maybe inspire social change. That’s kind of a big deal.

Also, I am doing something else really exciting. Getting all A’s. In all 6 of my classes. The semester is about only halfway done, so we’ll see where it goes, but it’s amazing how much more motivated I am to be successful in school after a) taking a year off and b) having figured out what I want to do with my life.

The last thing that’s going on in my life that is keeping me from being a very good blogger is that I have been rehearsing and practicing to accompany the BYU contemporary dancers. I got this amazing opportunity from one of the most musically apt people I know from Church. He randomly presented me with this chance, and I’ve totally been bitten by the performance bug. I just love it. We did our first performance today and it went really well. It felt amazing to sing with such a talented person and to a magical guitarist, then knowing two people were dancing to something that I was helping to create–was amazing.

I have a lot going on right now, personally and with school, but I’m encouraged by the inspiring messages of those around me. I am so lucky and grateful for the opportunities I get to spend my life in such uplifting circumstances. I am growing in ways I never thought possible–and it’s not even because of the Halloween candy!

Green

I just realized I posted this without any text, so a lot of people got emailed this with…no text, just pictures. Sorry.

I was recently told that green “is my color.” I think I’ll wear green more.

Today I’m not going to class and spending the day in Salt Lake, with my friend Chelsea. She came and visited me while I was living in LA too. I’m really really excited.

Happy Fall Equinox

I usually don’t post on Saturdays, but today is the start of fall–and well, I have to celebrate in my most fall outfit. The “Stanford” sweater is actually vintage! It belonged to my mom in the 80′s. The lace0side leggings (I don’t get to wear these nearly enough, btw) are from Papaya. The cute collared hearts piece was supposed to be a dress–but it totally shrank. Yes, again with my ELF Cheerful Cherry lipstick. It really is my fall favorite.

Even though the Fall Equinox is today, I don’t feel like fall has really set in. It’s definitely starting to creep around the corner, but I’m still holding out for 60 and 70 degree temps. Enough of this heat already! (But don’t come for a while, Winter.)

But, regardless of if we like it, the seasons are changing. Whether you pronounce it “Ee-quinox” or “Eh-quinox,” let’s remember to come together at this Season of Thankfulness–and let’s just all get along, okay?!

Happy Fourth of July

Happy 4th of July, Happy Independence Day, Happy Summer! Shirt is from Victoria’s Secret, bike belongs to my brother-in-law. Can’t wait to enjoy fireworks tonight, but responsibly, of course, since half of the state is on fire.

My heart goes out to all those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom–and to all those who continue to put their lives on the line for our country!

In other news, I got a Ukulele for my birthday. I have written SO MANY NEW SONGS. I feel like Taylor Swift, writing about all my exes. Well, some I wrote while I was still with them. It’s actually really therapeutic!

Oh, HEY there, Monday

Dress from Charlotte Russe, Jeggings (yes, jeggings) from Old Navy, boots from Papaya.

I have officially been woken up by the greatest things the past two days. Life is pretty much awesome.

In other news, have someone take your photos that understands focus. Please. And in less harsh light. Don’t be like me.

Ready for a busy week!?? It’s coming!
