Future Videographer?

I took these videos on the property where I’m living. Beautiful, beautiful! I love photography–I don’t know why it’s taken me this long to discover the beauty in videos, too. I foresee myself having lots of fun with this. Happy Monday!

Nature and Rainbow

Rain has been on my mind a lot lately. Mostly, I think, because of the fires that have been happening. I’ve noticed it to rain more than I’m used to in the Summer. I also know there are some pretty bad thunderstorms going on in the East. First of all, I miss thunder. I can probably count the number of times I’ve heard thunder since I left North Carolina on one hand.

On June 29th, the church I belong to, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, came out with a statement asking for prayers on behalf of those affected by the wildfires.

Think what you will, but every time I’ve seen it rain since, I am filled with gratitude at the beauty of the Earth and amazement at the mercies of our Lord.

Sorry to get all Churchy, but I really do love rain! Even if you’re not religious, you have probably felt something relaxing and cleansing about rain–which is really all I’m trying to convey.

Another Ukulele Song

One of a few songs I’ve written on the Uke. I always perform better when no one’s watching. Or going to be watching, I guess. So ignore the wrong notes and voice crack.

Red Shoes

Bought these shoes for my hip hop class so I can look more legitimate as I dance around awkwardly. I think they’re pretty sweet.

If you’ll notice, they fold down, and it’s plaid on the inside! I can’t wait to wear these with some sweet leggings in the fall! And an overlarge sweater? Um, yes please.

Naturally Me – The Secrets

You’re beautiful, by the way. This is what I look like. The only “makeup” is a slightly tinted moisturizer and, of course, my eyelash extensions. I would like to mention that makeup can not create beauty. Girls that wear tons of make up all the time are trying to hide something on the inside, not the outside. I do not have perfect skin, hair or teeth, but I love that about myself.

I’ve come a long way to be able to be comfortable enough to post a photo like this on the Internet. Here’s what I do to try and have a natural beauty always:

  1. This might sound weird, but I don’t wash my face when I go to bed. I know everyone does, otherwise you sleep with makeup on, but usually–I feel like my makeup is all gone by the end of the day. I find when I do wash my face at night, it tends to break out more. Washing it once in the morning when I shower is enough.
  2. I take off my eye makeup before bed. ALWAYS!! It really helps to not look like a raccoon in the morning and after you shower. (p.s. with the eyelash extensions, I never wear mascara, and it is amazing how much different under your eyes looks in the morning when you don’t wear it for a while)
  3. I usually wear a face mask to bed. Yes, I look like a scary green monster. This is what I’m using currently. It is super refreshing.
  4. When I wake up, I wash my face (more like rinse, really) when I shower.
  5. MOISTURIZE! I think you should really lather your whole body in lotion after you shower, but especially your face. My favorite body lotion is this. For my face, I use some fancy dermatologist prescribed formula.
  6. Tweeze the eyebrows. Every single morning. It will dramatically help you look beautiful (because you ARE beautiful) with no makeup. Best tweezers I’ve ever owned, hands down.
  7. Smile! Seriously, smiling helps your appearance tremendously and makes you feel better too. Smile, smile, smile. Crest White Strips are the stuff of magic.

Notice how “get eyelash extensions” is not on that list. You are beautiful without them, even if you have the most blonde eyelashes anyone has ever seen.

In other news, I have officially decided on the major that will take me through the rest of my degree, and no more switching is allowed:

Political Science, emphasis in World Politics; minor in Gender Studies. Thank you, I have just added 2 more years to my schooling. But I’m okay with that, because it’s about time I chased my dreams.

DANCE

This girl and I have been through tons together. TOO MUCH to ever go back on. I love her. She is BEAUTIFUL, do you hear me?! BEAUTIFUL! And nothing you ever do will be enough to deserve her wonderfulness.

Kate, if you’re reading this…let’s go dancing again soon. Love you.

Black and White

Cropped. Filtered black & white, filtering the green instead of red! Makes the eyes look brighter, lips look darker. Increased highlights, removed stray hairs that went across my face, brightened eyes, darkened eye liner (to make it look smeary) & other minor spot corrections.

Pentax K-x. Taken on 2-sec timer with flash. Focal length 23.1mm. Exposure time 1/20. F-stop f/4. ISO 200.

If you own a digital SLR, you should know what all of that means. If you don’t, take a class like I did. If you don’t want to, maybe I’ll post a little beginner guide next week.
