Balloons and Sparrows

I really like balloons, so when I came to work yesterday and had balloons waiting for me, I was all over them. As you can see by the new header. And the photos below. I even did my hair and nails and makeup all nice! Balloons are special, I’m telling you. The dress is from Forever21, shoes are from Forever Young Shoes. Hair I got from this tutorial on Pinterest (and modified it a little).

Funfetti Cupcakes & A Birthday

But they were from a box, so they actually tasted good.

Unlike everything I’ve ever made from scratch.

Also, I came into work this morning and found these.

And these. All from this wonderful lady. She is truly amazing! I love her to death.

I’m sure I’ll post more later because my day is just getting started. Happy Un-Birthday to all of you! (Unless it actually happens to be your birthday too. Happy Birthday)

Break Up Queen, Not Ashamed

Because this is so long, I should post a photo, taken on 6/26/2011! A year ago yesterday! Man, how things have changed since then…

I have had 3 major break ups in the past 6 months. The first of which was the last of a string of on-and-off break ups in that particular relationship. Before that, I had two other relationships. I haven’t been single longer than 3 months since I graduated high school. In 2009. I am the Break Up Queen. I also need to be single. But hey, if nothing else, I’ve learned I give great advice now!

Why do I bother mentioning things people usually keep to themselves?

Well. In case you haven’t heard, my birthday is the 28th. Tomorrow. And I am in serious need of a new start.

I kind of feel like I need to prove to myself that I can be single. I am all about independence and strength, but as one of my cousins mentioned, maybe I can’t live without the “affections of a man.”

YES I CAN! …I THINK! I don’t know…but I think that’s the point of this whole experiment!

So. New rules of year 21:

  1. Go on dates, but don’t look for or expect them.
  2. Don’t get serious with anyone until I feel ready.
  3. Make lots more friends in both genders.
  4. Kisses mean something.
  5. Do things boyfriends in the past wouldn’t have “approved” of, like GOING DANCING! EVERY WEEK! Like I used to, and it made me ohsohappy.
  6. Be a little bit more selfish. Focus on improving myself & my talents.
  7. Be a little bit more cynical. “How many ladies have you used that line on?” accompanied with an eye roll (but also a smile).
  8. Actually listen to the opinions of others, but still come up with my own. Don’t automatically reject their suggestions.
  9. YOU ARE NOT THE EXCEPTION, YOU ARE THE RULE. Say it with me: I AM NOT THE EXCEPTION, I AM THE RULE.
  10. Don’t ignore red flags or make excuses. Ever again. I don’t care how sweet and sensitive he is, if I can use English properly, be talented in music, communicate well with others, take care of my appearance, and know how to work, I am allowed expect that out of a man as well.

Anyway. That list is on the Internet now, so I should try to stick to it. Of course, that’s not even near close to everything I want to change about myself in year 21. That list would be way too long for the blog.

I was about to apologize for the length, because I’m not done typing yet, but I really don’t need to apologize for that. So I won’t. This blog is for me. I hope it helps others too, at the very least to just get a little more enjoyment out of life.

Family problems is my next topic. The past few days have been unusually concentrated with family problems–across my extended family and immediate. I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to just shout out all the things that are bothering me, so CAN I JUST SAY that being the Break Up Queen has come in handy. Twice.

And also, I really have determined that the only person in your life that won’t let you down ever is God, and even though family is the next most important priority, you really can’t even count on them to not hurt you.

Which is fine. That’s all a part of life, and I’m guilty of hurting my family too. So are you. Probably.

But it’s fine. It’s all fine. What else can we do but move on?

8:30 Sunset

This is why I leave work with a headache every day. Also, my 21st birthday is Thursday. I’m planning on spoiling myself as much as I can.

Summer semester started today. My English teacher says “I don’t give 100% grades. That implies perfection and nothing you do will be perfect. It’s hard to get an A in my class. Expect a C.”

This is going to be a great next few weeks. That was sarcasm.

The release coin button didn’t work, I tried. Just a cool two grand, no big deal. Enjoying my last three days of fun this weekend until summer classes start on Monday and Tuesday!

What To Say on Pensive Thursday

Okay, so I really don’t know what words should accompany this post. What do I want to say… This reminds me of a couple years ago, when I first started my blogging and was living in the Blue House. I couldn’t think of anything to write then either. This is what I wrote:

It’s hard to write when you don’t have something to say. What do people say when they have nothing to say? I imagine they sit in front of their paper, or their computer, and stare. Or perhaps their eyes drift and they begin to think about other things. Like what they had for lunch. Or what their plans are for the upcoming Friday.

Everybody feels, so that’s no excuse for an empty mind. No one goes through life completely apathetic on all accounts. For instance, I am looking at a crack on my wall. I have no idea how it got there, but I feel something about that crack. I’m frustrated it’s there because when I reach for blankets at the end of my bed, sometimes my nail gets stuck and the plaster cuts my finger. Yet, I like it on account of how it brings character to this already overwhelmingly charismatic house. Sometimes, it embarrasses me when people come to visit and they notice the crack. I feel as if they are judging me for not living in a perfect house in perfect condition. But I feel about that crack in the wall. I could probably write a paper on how I feel about that crack in the wall.

So there you go. Pensive Thursday. Maybe it should be a thing. I realize the photos seem completely unrelated. You’re welcome.

Je Veux

Tank from Forever21, cover up from Charlotte Russe.

This is what my hair looks like when I just wash it and don’t brush it or anything when I get out of the shower. If I brush it, it dries straight usually.

So the shirt says “Je veux faire du pied a toi,” which apparently means “I wanna play footsie with you” in French. Best. Tank. Ever.

I can’t believe I’m almost 21. It is crazy how fast time is flying! Everything just needs to slow down a little. I am growing up too fast.

Driving Back

I got back last night from my trip to St George. 4 hour drive in 3. Yeah. I basically listened to music really loud, drove fast and was accompanied by a blood-red sunset. The sun was RED. It was cool and also creeped me out at first.

And here’s a photo of my bruise that I mentioned on Friday. It isn’t exactly delicious or attractive, so I made the photo smaller. You’re welcome.

It was a great trip. I always love seeing my family. Every single person I talked to told me I should move there. It’s beautiful. A paradise…I was just starting to get used to the heat when I left yesterday. Maybe after I’m done with school, I’ll consider moving there! It’s an option. Always an option…but since I left North Carolina in 2009, I’ve moved 6 times: to Cedar Hills, UT, to Rexburg, ID, to Provo, to a different place in Provo, to Los Angeles, back to Provo. That’s so many times to move! I just want to stay in one place for now, but seriously, seeing my family and spending time with them was really amazing. I already miss them!

Day 3 in St. George

Having a cousin that’s always been like a brother come home from being gone for two years is wonderful! No one cried, which surprised me. He was all smiles as we all were and I can’t wait for his home coming tomorrow.

Thanks for giving me my cousin back, Mexico.

In other news:

I got this bruise (which extends down from my inner thigh to my ankle) from jumping off a twenty foot rock into some water. It feels lovely.

Also, I want to thank everyone for the positive feedback I received regarding the post I made yesterday. Some were unexpected, all were wonderful! So thank you to everyone, seriously.

Airhead Apparently

It’s come to my attention that my sister seems to think I “act like an airhead to get attention” and that all she’s ever heard me talk about is fashion. She wasn’t trying to be mean, it’s just her opinion and that’s fine.

“Well, I have heard you ask Dad about politics a couple times, I’ll give you that.”

It occurs to me that I haven’t said anything of much importance on my blog. That’s because I like to keep things light for the most part, not because I’m vapid and my life really only revolves around the things I post about.

Well, blogosphere, let me let you in on the well-rounded me and you can be the judge of whether or not I’m an airhead.

I realize she said I only “act” like an airhead. I would like to say that just because I don’t walk around serious all the time, because I like to be silly with my friends on occasion, doesn’t mean I’m acting out to get attention. I’d like to think it’s because I enjoy being the kind of person that is generally known as easy-going, lighthearted and approachable.

Okay. Here’s more than you’ve ever wanted to know about me:

I like clothes. I like to put together outfits because it makes my eyes happy. It’s a form of creativity not different than any other art in its most basic concepts.

I like to take pictures. I especially like to take photos of other people, because I believe every now and then you can get a shot that really captures a piece of humanity. I also think it’s an outlet for creativity.

I like to shoot guns. I think it’s fun and it is very rewarding to work on perfecting the skill. I also believe in knowing how to defend yourself.

I like to read books. I mostly like non-fiction, because I really enjoy reality and learning about the philosophies of others. I like fiction, too, because it’s really just a movie on paper.

I like to watch documentaries. I like to learn about the world because I like the feeling of “oh, that makes sense” and filling in blanks.

I am fascinated with Space and the Universe. There is so much knowledge out there.

If I could do anything in the world, I would travel to different countries and try to teach women how to be independent and self-sufficient and to be healthy and hygienic.

I’ve taken Spanish, French and Russian classes.

I believe music is a universal language and that the notes have so much complexity beyond the surface view, like any poem or writing. I understand how music works.

I love to sing.

I love to watch plays, ballets, musicals, and all performances. I enjoy all sorts of cultural activities.

I like to travel and read about places of travel.

I like to go running, I like to go for walks and hikes. I like to appreciate the beauty that is around me.

I try to cultivate a love for all people and I try very hard to treat everyone with all the respect I feel I would want. I believe in empathy.

I’m very religious. I believe there’s one very straight and narrow path to never ending happiness.

I believe in forming an educated opinion about most everything. I really don’t like politics, but I feel a responsibility to be informed and to fight for things I feel are right.

I don’t know. I feel this natural desire to create, but to also learn about the things that are and have been. It’s very complicated! I feel like there are a lot of things on my mind that I can’t quite put into words…like I’ve almost got it figured out, but not yet.

Think I’m an airhead if you must, but I am just like everyone else–trying to figure out life and the best way to get by. Hopefully everyone realizes that this blog is purely surface-level and cannot be expected to show the person I feel I am. I base my true happiness on things that cannot end, but I do enjoy my hobbies. I put them on this website in hopes that I can be more well-rounded, and maybe even help others enjoy life a little bit more as well.

JUST BECAUSE I LIKE TO LOOK NICE AND PUT PHOTOS ON MY BLOG DOES NOT AN AIRHEAD MAKE.

Leggings with Lace

I’ve been wanting to get a pair of leggings like these for a while. I haven’t really decided on the type of top to pair them with, but I love them and couldn’t resist sharing. I have a leggings obsession, I am aware. I’m still in St George, so expect all those photos and updates next week.

After A Long Day Of Shopping

Nice to see you again, yellow blazer! I coincidentally wore those same shoes, too, I just didn’t get a good photo of them. Nails are done with Essie’s Play Date and a top coat of Sinful Colors’ Purple Diamond. Dress is from Papaya. I got my necklace from a little boutique about a year ago and the ring on the right hand is from Charlotte Russe, the LOVE ring, I can’t remember where it’s from or when I even got it…they have them everywhere, though.

I wore this to a family friend’s reception on Saturday!

In other news, I hate it when I do that thing when I smile and my teeth go over my lip. It’s so unattractive. I should’ve gotten braces.

Oh well. So this week, I’m going to St. George! It’ll be fun. Fingers crossed I come back tan.

Fringes

Fringe shirt from Forever 21. Shoes are vans. And a cheesy grin. AND OUT OF FOCUS!!! It makes me grumpy. But they’re not all out of focus. So that’s okay. Fringe:

Noun:
An ornamental border of threads left loose or formed into tassels or twists, used to edge clothing or material.
Adjective:
Not part of the mainstream; unconventional, peripheral, or extreme

It fits my life both ways this weekend. I have had one crazy past few days! I got great photos and letters in the mail and an unexpected surprise that made a huge difference in my week. Having my family coming to visit this weekend also was…

…interesting. To say the least!

Not related, but isn’t it funny which part of the truth you tell certain people, depending on how you know they’ll react.

I can’t think of an example without telling you what I’m talking about, but do you know what I mean?

Cheers to my fringed weekend and first half of the week.
