Salt Lake City Weekend Part I

Click to make bigger!

This weekend is going to be awesome! For those who MAY NOT KNOW, I’m a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (aka, I’m a Mormon). We’re having the super bowl of the LDS church this weekend: General Conference. I get to hear at least one session live at the conference center in Salt Lake with this one guy. <3

I have to say, I can’t wait to hear all the uplifting words and be inspired! This weekend…is going to be awesome!

Sometimes

Uploaded a new banner (as you can see up there)! Happy Spring!

Sometimes good things happen. Sometimes you wear jean on jean and it works.

Sometimes you’re too busy to do your laundry, so you leave it in the laundry room and come home to it washed, dried and folded on your bed.

Sometimes you hear a great song on the radio, assume it’s too difficult to play, but look it up and realize it only uses the chords you already know and learn it in a few minutes!

Sometimes the girls at work share their expensive nail polish.

Sometimes you go shopping and find exactly what your looking for.

Sometimes the fish you’re taking care of doesn’t die like you’re sure it’s going to any minute.

Sometimes you walk outside and are surprised by how nice of a day it is!

Sometimes life is headed in the right direction.

Sometimes I think we should pay more attention to the little things that happen in our lives.

Cloud Nails

Like most of my nail ideas these days, I found this lovely inspiration on Pinterest, which comes directly from this website.

Cute, no?? I think I did a pretty good job for my first try! And thanks bunches to Meg who took the photos for me! She has an adorable blog. Better than mine. Check it out.

New Hair and Shades

I got blonde added back into my hair. Turns out, I really like it! I’m going to be going back to California next week and it just seemed appropriate. I also bought Moroccan Oil for my dry ends, and it is a miracle worker. So I have three blonde panels in my hair now!

Spring Has Arrived

Blazer: Forever21 (not available online, unless you’re in the UK); shoes: Charlotte Russe.

Can’t wait for the next few weeks! Spring has sprung. You will be seeing these shoes and blazer again!

One Month of Ukulele

I learned this song this morning, so I feel pretty impressed. And also, after a whole month!! I don’t know how I lived this long without playing this little Uke!

Also, ignore that it’s out of focus and the two times in particular when I don’t sing on pitch. Kay thanks!

Nautical Nails and Other Designs

These nautical nails are some of my favorite I’ve had! When Anna was visiting last week, we did some nails (of course) and she was able to take this lovely Pinterest find and bring it to life! We used a brush for the white instead of tape, but she also hand-drew that anchor! Cool, right?

Anna took a nail art pen for the delicious dot design she did here! I was very impressed that she could do it on both her hands. That’s where I have problems!

The Importance of a Good Man

Leave a comment after you read the book and tell me what you think!

A few months ago, one of my very best friends gave me a copy of “He’s Just Not That Into You.” I had seen the movie, but never read the book. I love the movie! I still think every girl should see it, but after reading the book cover to cover in just an hour or so (granted, it’s only 80pgs) and highlighting the heck out of it, I’ve decided that every human–especially women–should either read the book or be exposed to the things it teaches.

At the time, I was just getting over dating who I like to refer to as my Evil Ex. It helped confirm to me exactly the kind of person he was (and probably still is), but I couldn’t help but wish I had read it years earlier.

Recent circumstances allowed me to think of the book again, so I went through and picked out all the qualities listed in the book that have become my new standard. Instead of helping me get over an ex, I read it with the mindset of appreciating and being able to recognize the type of man that I will one day spend my life with.

It also occurred to me that this might be useful to some of you.

I made it all into a pretty book, extremely convenient for you to download, print and make into a little cheat sheet of your own! I’m not saying that these are the end-all, be-all of standards, but they are mine and maybe it wouldn’t be bad if they were yours too.

EDIT: This was written at a very specific time in my life, as is discussed above. I’ve posted a response and explanation for the contents of this book 9 months after this, which you can (and should) follow up with here.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

This is my friend Anna, who I grew up with in North Carolina! I got to see her this past week, and we made cookies among other things. You may remember her.

Her family happens to have an awesome cookie recipe. So we made them and ate them.

They turned out delicious!

Almost Tuxedo Nails

I googled “tuxedo nails” because I wondered if that was a thing. It is. This is almost them, but they’re supposed to have a bowtie. Unfortunately, I couldn’t fit a bowtie on most of the nails. And there’s no way I was going to be able to draw tiny bows with my non-dominant hand onto my dominant hand. As a result, they are almost tuxedos. Or Oxfords. Or those old fashioned shoes that men used to wear where they had black shoes and then those things that went over them that were white and had buttons? Wish I knew what those were called.

Things I Miss Today

These four boys men–I love them all in different ways. They are completely unique, but one very specific thing brings them all together:

They are all serving missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Or, sometimes, we’re better known as Mormons.

That basically means (and very basically) that they’ve chosen to give up two years of their lives to go wherever they are asked to go in the world to do service and to tell other people about our religion, cutting off almost all ties with the lives they leave behind.

It’s a huge sacrifice, as I’m beginning to see, and today I miss them. One is in California, one is in Mexico, one is in South Dakota and the other is in London. Three will be home within the next 4 months and hasn’t even been gone for a month.

So here’s to them <3
