A Silly Hat

Because these were cool for a while. And my sister has one. And I couldn’t find anything else worth wearing for my fashion post this week. So yeah.

Happy Leap Year! Leave a comment: animal hats–in or no?

Pina Colada Cupcakes

If you didn’t see yesterday’s post, you need to check it out. Like come on. Where have you been.

So I made vanilla cupcakes with pineapple filling and coconut frosting. Here’s a bunch of photos! Click on the photo below for the cake recipe:

I tried to follow the recipe (click the photo with the ingredients above for the recipe) as strictly as I could. I’m not known for my baking skills. While they were in the oven, I mixed the frosting. As in, I got some Betty Crocker frosting and mixed in a bunch of coconut, then put it into a piping back (which I made myself by cutting off the zip part of a baggie, then twisting it up.

Then the cupcakes came out! And while they cooled, I made the pineapple filling (which I forgot to take a picture of.) I used this recipe. Except I did it in a saucepan. Turned out delicious, by the way! After they cooled, I took a melon baller (you’re supposed to use an apple corer, but I didn’t have one of those) and took out the centers in all the cupcakes, then filled them with the filling!

Then I frosted them, toasted some coconut and placed it on top (all decorative, like) and voila!

If I were to do it again, (but I won’t, because I don’t particularly like to bake) I would take the cupcakes out of the oven a good bit sooner. They were a little dry. But still tasty! Yay!

Ukulele Skills

Okay, here it is: my big thing. A Ukulele cover of Noah and the Whale’s song “5 Years Time.”

I picked up a Ukulele for the first time ever last week and this is what I learned!!! So proud of myself–but I still have a long way to go. I mess up the words and the Ukulele a few times, but HEY. I took like four or five different takes and this is as close as I had the patience to get it, haha.

Comment and tell me what you think! Skills? Or sorrybutno?

Jeans

Soooooo I’m back in Utah (notice the snow) and I realized (as I was trying to think of a title for this post) that in the 6mo that I’ve had this blog, I’ve only worn jeans twice in all of the fashion posts! I’m always in dresses, skirts, shorts or leggings. I don’t wear jeans very often because I only have a few pairs and none of them seem to fit me very well. I have big hips and stuff.

Happy second post with jeans!

Also, if you’re wondering why my face is so chubby–I gained like almost 5lbs since I moved to California. Working on it.

MAKE SURE you check out the blog tomorrow (if you don’t ever come back again, just at least come back tomorrow)!!! It’ll be–in a word, amazing. Or at least cool. Or impressive. I’m not sure. But come. Tomorrow. Bookmark it.

Monday With Maria DIY: Tank Top

If you haven’t checked out Pinterest, you must! It’s awesome! This week’s post is inspired by the picture above. Now my shirt doesn’t look quiet as fabulous but I figure it would with practice.

I am using one of my boyfriend’s old T-shirts and a ribbon that was laying around my house. That’s really all you need!

If you outline your shirt, it makes cutting it easier.

I love DIY projects that are simple and easy. This shirt was both. Sorry I’ve been so MIA these past few weeks, I have been super busy with work and school. But I promise no more excuses :)

Apologies

No posts in two weeks!

Oh, how I’ve let myself slack.

Not that these are excuses, but I’ve been going through a lot these past two weeks–a little heartbreak, a little heartache, a little growth. Sunrises and sunsets. Mostly sunsets. Nothing quite like a California sunset.

Next week will start with regular posts again!

100 Years

I just listened to the song “100 Years” by Five for Fighting, and it really depressed me! It talks about how life goes by so quickly, basically. I’m turning 21 in a few months and looking back, I feel like I’ve totally wasted the first 20 years of my life!

I am sad. Life is so fleeting.
